Following can be used to test sendmail on your linux box.

You can copy&paste snippet below, don’t forget to replace you@youhost.com with your email address.
In best case your get email and know that your linux can sent emails and sendmail works fine. If not you will need some setup, debug, maybe talk to admins or your Hoster.

yum install sendmail -y

cat << EOF > /tmp/email.txt
Subject: Test Email Subject
Test Email Text
EOF

sendmail you@youhost.com  < /tmp/email.txt

Remark: This works on CentOS, and probably any other distro with yum. For not yum based distros you will need to replace the first line.
