"‘Item is not a supported archive file’ ERROR in Nexus log explained"
I see ERROR ‘com.sonatype.nexus.plugins.archive_browser.rest.ArchiveBrowserPlexusResource … : Item is not a supported archive file’ in nexus logfiles.
Is it bad? Is it severe nexus malfunction? Here is what i found.
The log entries look like :
jvm 1 | 2014-10-02 13:04:08 ERROR [blah181181648-105405] diuw com.sonatype.nexus.plugins.archive_browser.rest.ArchiveBrowserPlexusResource - Got exception during processing request "GET http://mynexus:8081/nexus/service/local/repositories/path/to/my/artifact/0.0.1/artifact-name-0.0.1.FORMAT/!/?_dc=2313521848069": Item is not a supported archive file.
What causes this ERROR
The answer to what it happens is simple : Nexus can open common Archive files in WEB UI. But if it cannot, and you ask it to, it says “Item is not a supported archive file”.
Is this ERROR in logs harmfull
No, i don’t think so. I also think that to log it as error in Nexus is wrong.
It is INFO at best and it tells user that “whatever” file type could not be opened from UI. In many cases it is not even an archive.
What is Nexus “Archive Browsing”
So, nexus can open archives using it’s “Archive Browsing” feature. Which is nice i.e. if you have jar or zip.
Here is the entry from sonatype about it :
To use this feature you go to the web UI which is often under http://mynexus/nexus/index.html if nexus was properly installed on mynexus host.
– select “Repositories”
– “Browse Storage”
– select specifig artifact
– in right window you will see some tabs, what you can do with selected artifact. “Archive Browser” is what you want
“Item is not a supported archive file” in web ui and log file
If you selected the artifact and “Archive Browser” all is still fine. But if you click on artifact in Archive Browser nexus will try to look inside.
If it can’t, you get “Item is not a supported archive file” in UI and in logfile
